Homemade Chili Seasoning (No Packet Needed)

If you ever gone to make chili and realized you don’t have a chili seasoning packet, you’re not stuck you just need a few ingredients.

This homemade chili seasoning is my no-packet-needed version, made from simple pantry ingredients you probably already have. It’s flexible and honestly tastes better because you control the flavor instead of relying on whatever’s in the packet.

Homemade Chili Seasoning

This homemade chili seasoning is an easy no-packet-needed mix you can make in minutes using pantry spices. Use it right away to make a simple, flavorful chili without relying on store-bought seasoning.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp onion powder or ¼ cup chopped onions
  • ½ tsp garlic powder or 2 cloves fresh garlic
  • ½ tsp sugar
  • OPTIONAL
  • 1 tsp cocoa powder OR
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (add when cooking)

Method
 

  1. Mix all spices together in a small bowl.
  2. Use immediately in your chili (no need to store unless you want to).
  3. Yield: About 2 tablespoons, enough to season 1 pound of meat.
  4. How to Use This Chili Seasoning

  5. Brown 1 lb ground beef with onion and/or garlic (if using fresh).
  6. Drain excess grease.
  7. Add:
  8. 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
  9. ½ to 1 cup water or beef broth
  10. chili seasoning mix
  11. 1 tablespoon vinegar (optional, but good)
  12. beans if you want
  13. Stir and simmer 15–30 minutes.
  14. Taste and adjust salt if needed.
