Copycat Manwich Soppy Joes

A sweet and tangy sloppy joe recipe made with simple pantry ingredients. This easy copycat version recreates the classic Manwich flavor without using a can.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 1 Tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ¼ tsp paprika
  • ¼ tsp chili powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 Tbsp finely minced onion

Method
 

  1. Brown the ground beef in a skillet. Drain grease.
  2. Add ketchup, tomato paste, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire, and water.
  3. Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, chili powder, and salt.
  4. Simmer 5–8 minutes until thick.
  5. Taste and adjust sweetness or salt.

Notes

I had a few hiccups making sloppy joes, but everything turned out great:
  • I didn't have a can of tomato paste, so I used a small can of tomato sauce. Because of that, I didn't add the water stated in the recipe.
  • My ground beef is packaged from the butcher at 1  1/2 pound packages, so that's what I used.
  • I didn't have yellow mustard on hand, so I used honey mustard, which added a little extra sweetness that we really liked.
