Turtle Shells

Turtle Shells is a vintage hamburger macaroni skillet made from ground beef, small shell pasta, tomato sauce and simple seasonings for an easy, budget-friendly dinner.

Ingredients
  

  • ½ to ¾ lbs ground beef
  • 6 to 8 oz small shell macaroni
  • 1 8 oz tomato sauce, small can
  • ¼ cup green pepper
  • 3 cubes chicken bouillon
  • ½ tsp cumin
  • ¼ tsp garlic salt
  • 1 can green beans - optional
  • 1 cup water
  • ¼ tsp pepper

Method
 

  1. In a large skillet brown ground beef and green pepper with salt and pepper to taste, until ground beef is crumbly; drain all but 2 tablespoons pan drippings.
  2. Add macaroni to the skillet and saute until lightly browned.
  3. Dissolve chicken bouillon in the cup of water.
  4. Add tomato sauce, cumin, garlic salt, the water and chicken bouillon, and green beans (if using).
  5. Simmer for 15 minutes or until macaroni in tender.
